Throughout the hotel in Detroit, I noticed a similar floral arrangement that caught my eye, by being both attractive and simple. Tall glass cylinders with cut orchids perched in little niches or placed on tables. If you look closely, you can see the bottom of this arrangment is wrapped with a leaf to cover the cut edge. Those of us who are not so great with flowers could easily handle this arrangment. This time of year, I see lots of yards with gladiolas, which are another great flower to use for this look. Their stalky yet colorful style is similar to an orchid. The pictur here shows another, more common use for wider hurricanes. I'd go with something more narrow for the flower arrangment. But fear not, it could be used seasonally with cranberries or ornaments in the winter or pinecones in the fall. Images courtesy Starwood Resorts, Crate and Barrel, and West Elm
