Although the Holiday Inn from last year's trip to Baltimore read a little chaotic, I really liked how they integrated some local flavor into the rooms. That standard issue picture next to the chair (which should be lowered about 5 inches), could have easily been a photograph of the Riverwalk, or downtown Detroit or even better--the ballpark!
While in Detroit, I stayed at the Westin downtown, which is definitely one of the nicer hotels in the city. Let's just say the "Heavenly" moniker for the bed was certainly appropriate. The room features comfy beds, attractive lighting and a stylish bath. So why did it leave me feeling so cold? While the look is clean and contemporary, I can't help feeling that in 5 years it's going to be look dated. Like kitchens with black granite countertop and stainless appliances that clearly says "2005". Or men in their mid thirties with tribal tattoos on their upper arm that clearly says, "this seemed like a good idea in 1998."
