Definitely take a trip over to the Hell's Kitchen Flea Market. Lots of interesting finds and the vendors really appreciate the business. I went at the end of the day and even though I was just looking (no buying anything until I move!), they were ready to deal. Even if it was just to avoid having to pack it up.
I had to do a second entry on the flea market because there was just too much good stuff to share. Like these lamps, for instance. They would great with a simple round shade (no trims) in a room painted a deep color (maybe a peacock blue?) so the white base really pops. One note, matching lamps work best on end tables that are the same height to create a more cohesive look. These would also work on a console or dresser, too. There were a few vendors who had antique cameras available. I have several friends who are big into photography and I bet you know (or are, yourself) someone who is, too. Wouldn't they look great in a bookcase or one on a coffee table with some books and maybe a chunky candle or flowers. This is what I was talking about when I wrote the entry about real antiques and using them to reflect your interests. This last one is a salvaged mailbox, probably from an apartment building. The patina, the details, the color--all great. And yes, this can be practical. For you crafters, a piece like this could be used to organize your supplies. If you don't have the luxury of a separate room to work in, this piece would be at home in a family room, ready when you have some time.
