This weekend I hit up the Hell's Kitchen Flea Market again--the outdoor one on Saturday (where I picked up an adorable tray table that will need some TLC but was a solid bargain) and the indoor annex known as "The Garage" on sunday with my sister. The indoor flea market is actually not in Hell's Kitchen at all but further south on 25th St. and was much more pleasant for browsing on a cold, rainy sunday. We arrived later in the afternoon so some of the vendors had shut it down for the day. The indoor market had a pretty eclectic mix of items--notably some vintage designer garments and costume jewelry (though I think the selection at the outdoor market is better for jewelry). What caught my eye was the nice selection of lamps and chandeliers available. The top picture shows some gourd shape lamps (very popular right now) in some great colors. This chandelier would compliment a small round dining table, a bedroom or even an entry with generous ceilings. Another popular look right now for lamps is crystal. These stacked ones here are similar to what you might find in some big box stores or even HomeGoods, but the quality is better. Plus, they even had some petite ones (they'd be darling as a desk lamp) and candlesticks to finish the look. The indoor market had some furniture, too, but not a tremendous amount and again, I found the prices better at the outdoor market. And craigslist offers better value than either (though obviously is not as convenient). So if you're in the mood for a little flea market shopping, but the weather isn't cooperating, hit up "The Garage".
